Your hearing aid fitting appointment will be about an hour at Hearing & Balance Services of Reston.
When your hearing aids are received, they are programmed according to your prescription. The audiologist uses the hearing aid fitting process to make sure your new devices deliver sound comfortably, and you understand how to wear and care for your devices.
What happens during the fitting appointment?
During the fitting, the audiologist may use Live Speech Mapping to make adjustments to your hearing aids. We encourage you to bring a friend or family member to this appointment so we can use their voice to adjust your new devices.
In addition to fine-tuning the hearing aids, the audiologist will also teach you about your hearing aids. You will learn how to use your hearing aids and how they work. In addition, you will practice inserting and removing your hearing aids until you are comfortable with the process. You will also learn how to change or recharge your batteries, how to clean your hearing aids and how to perform other routine maintenance activities. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for written instructions.
Fitting your hearing aids
During the fitting process, you may be asked questions about your hearing. Please answer correctly so the audiologist can best adjust your hearing aids until they create a listening experience that is comfortable and effortless.
You may return to the office for minor adjustments after the initial fitting. This is perfectly natural and part of the process of getting your settings and programs dialed in to suit your personal preferences.
Adjusting to your hearing aids
When you wear hearing aids for the first time, it is completely natural to feel a rush of different emotions.
Once your hearing aids are programmed to your preferences, you should hear the sounds of your everyday life clearly, comfortably and effortlessly.
Before you leave, the audiologist will give you directions for adjusting to your hearing aids. Just as it takes time to adjust to wearing eyeglasses, it also takes time to adjust to wearing hearing aids.
Maintaining a positive attitude is an important factor in achieving success with hearing aids.
The audiologist is dedicated to working closely with you to get the most out of your new hearing aids.
